New Wave Catamarans have launched and delivered 5 new high speed crew boat catamarans over the past two years completing a five boat order for the Caspian Sea.
The most recent two completed in Brisbane mid April were named “Bue Ob” and “Bue Tekes”.
“Bue Ob” is the standard 18 metre/50 passenger crew boat catamaran and a sister boat to “Bue Tobol” launched mid 2005. Powered by twin cat C18 engines (680 h.p.) and doen 220 waterjets the vessel has a top cruising speed of 27 knots.
“Bue tekes” is a smaller 25 passenger, 13 metre version with a loaded draft of less than 500mm. Powered by twin cat C12 engines (460 h.p.) and doen 140 water jets the vessel also has a top cruising speed of 27 knots.
March saw the launch and delivery of the 18 and 19m crew boat catamarans
both in Baku, Azerbaijan.
“Bue Naryn” is the standard 18m/50pax sister boat to “Bue
Ob”.
“Bue Daryn” is a slightly larger and faster version of the
18m 50 passenger crew boat catamaran. Powered by twin cat 3412 engines
(1100 h.p.) and doen 220 water jets the vessel has a top speed of 32 knots.
In order to meet the owner’s contract requirements and in a race against time to get the boats up to the Caspian before the only access closed due to the winter icing over, new wave undertook to ship “Bue Naryn” and “Bue Daryn” in a semi completed stage and finish in Baku.
New wave sent the construction squad to Baku to complete the vessels, the team of 10 to 15 men plus 10 local azuri laborers took a total of 14 weeks. Other Australian companies to assist with the project in Baku and send men were Doen Waterjets and TMQ Marine Electronics and Lloyds Australia.
The vessels were delivered to the Sipan wharf at SBS facility at Premorsk, south of Baku. They were then loaded on to trucks and moved to the vacant shed which was then set up to build. Work commenced in trying and sometime freezing conditions. “Bue Naryn” was completed first and trucked down to the wharf and craned into the water. On arrival for first sea trials early the next morning the vessel was covered in 2 inches of show. Sea trials were very successful in the 1.5 to 2 metre conditions with the catamaran handling well with speeds up to 32 knots. Bue Daryn followed 2 weeks later.
All vessels were purpose designed by Paul Birgan of Sea Speed Pty Ltd in conjunction with the experienced owners Bue Bulkers to meet the challenging conditions of the Kazakhstan oil fields. Special features include low draft of 900mm for the 18 metre / 50 pax versions and an amazing 500mm for the 13 metre/25pax version. Large aft’ open work deck with additional strength to enable load carrying activities. Strict zero discharge capability for environmental considerations. The top of the range work place safety standard and state of the art electronic equipment.
The 18m vessels were built to Lloyds Register +100A1 Passenger Catamaran
G3 HSC UMS (150 nautical mile operation) and the 13 metre USL Code Class
1C (50 nautical mile operation).
The five boat order was successfully completed in 15 months and on time,
on budget.
New Wave in the same period have completed a 18metre Ferry for Fanta Sea
Cruises and commenced 3 new-build catamarans. A 16 metre Whale watcher
for Eden a 24metre dive boat for Port Douglas and a revolutionary 20 Metre
oil refinery vessel.
