18M Fast Cat

Overview

"Fast Cat 18" Design "Blu Anda 171"

The first of the Sea Speed designed 18 Metre High Speed “FastCat”was launched June 2013 and named "Blu Anda 171". The FastCat hull form is a Deep Vee planing hull with hard chines and has been very successful over the years for high speed applications in the 30-40 knot range.

Powered by twin MTU 8 V 2000M72 (2 x 965hp) engines and through conventional prop/shaft propulsion system the top speed at trials was over 34 knots with a comfortable cruising speed of well over 30 knots. The design incorporates the Sea Speed "Mini keels" matched with the deep vee hard chine hulls giving excellent sea keeping. These cat’s were specifically designed to operate in large seas and wave conditions at high speeds, they will now carry VIP day trippers 50 Nautical Miles each way every day out to the pristine islands off Phuket, Thailand. Once out there, they will utilize hydraulic dive platforms from the aft’ deck for tender launch and diving operations. Click here to see Video

The above photo's show the launching and official naming ceromony carried out by the Australian Ambassator to Thailand, Mr James Wise.

This sleek new design is completed to a super-high standard of appointment by the Australian and Thai team. The vessel is fully faired with West System filler and painted with Alwgrip paint system for a mirror finish.

The first of two, set for high speed outer Island opertation. 50 nautical miles both ways for a VIP day trip in seas which can be 2-3 metres was the design brief. Design does the job with ease.l

The "Fast Cat 18" Design and Kit Set is now available.

"Sea Speed Design" supplied the complete design and also the complete CKD aluminium router cut Kit and it worked out really well for the builder as can be seen above. Each time a Kit is completed and built more parts can be included in the next one.
